PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Veterinary technicians should have sensitivity and a concern for animals. Technicians must be firm as well as gentle. In dealing with owners who are upset about their pets, technicians should have sympathy, patience, and tact. Good judgment and a willingness to work with the animal health care team are important assets. Veterinary technicians must be willing and able to understand and follow exactly the veterinarian's instructions. An aptitude for record keeping and report writing, and good communication skills, are also necessary to succeed in this career.
Occupations can be adapted for workers with disabilities. Those interested should contact their school or employment counselors, their state office of vocational rehabilitation, or their state department of labor to explore fully their individual needs and requirements as well as the requirements of the occupation.
