EMPLOYERS
In 2002, veterinary technicians held over 54,000 jobs throughout the United States. The majority worked in veterinary services. Most of the rest worked in breeding kennels, animal shelters, farms, racetracks, riding stables, grooming shops, and zoos. Some worked in research laboratories, or for medical, dental, and veterinary schools. They also worked for federal, state, and local government agencies, including fish and wildlife services. Others worked for companies that make pharmaceuticals, animal products, and animal feeds.
